The number of inbound tourists in Macau in January increased by 2.6 times from the previous month
According to statistics from the Statistics and Census Bureau of the Macao SAR, driven by the relaxation of anti-epidemic measures for entry and the Lunar New Year holiday, the number of inbound tourists in January this year doubled year-on-year to 1,397,748, which is nearly 2.6 times higher than that in December last year.
Overnight visitors (816,199) and same-day visitors (581,549) increased by 2.3 times and 29.1% year-on-year respectively. The average length of stay of tourists increased by 0.3 days year-on-year to 1.6 days; the average length of stay of same-day visitors (0.3 days) increased by 0.2 days, and that of overnight visitors (2.6 days) decreased by 0.8 days. Analyzed by tourist source, the number of tourists from Mainland China increased by 54.5% year-on-year to 991,641, of which the number of tourists traveling under the Individual Visit Scheme (707,360) increased by 3.2 times; tourists from Hong Kong (356,958) and Taiwan (18,868) also recorded a 7-fold and 1.4-fold increase respectively times increase. In addition, tourists from the nine Pearl River Delta cities in the Greater Bay Area increased by 47.6% year-on-year to 608,336, of which tourists from Zhuhai (144,262) and Guangzhou (136,594) accounted for 23.7% and 22.5% respectively.
According to the statistics of entry channels, a total of 1,152,936 passengers entered the country by land in January, an increase of 82.8% year-on-year. Among them, the passengers who entered the border gate (592,191), the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (267,390) and the Hengqin Port (231,771) respectively Accounting for 51.4%, 23.2% and 20.1%. Due to the resumption of sea flights in Hong Kong and Macau and the recovery of passenger traffic at airports, the number of passengers arriving by sea increased by 10.5 times year-on-year to 149,649, and those entering by air also increased by 87.9% to 95,163.
